Nancledra Children

Art and Design

At Nancledra School, our Art curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, nurture self‑expression and help children understand how art shapes the world around them. Pupils explore a wide range of artistic techniques—including drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, collage, photography and textiles—allowing them to discover who they are as artists and to express ideas with increasing confidence. They learn to look at, think about and talk about art, developing strong visual literacy by studying artworks from across history and around the world, such as those from ancient civilisations, the Renaissance, the Victorian period, Impressionism and modern movements, as well as artistic traditions from different cultures.

Lessons build pupils’ knowledge of how art has developed over time, how artists work and how creative ideas are formed, giving every child a rich foundation of practical skills and cultural understanding. Through this carefully sequenced curriculum, we aim to ignite a lifelong enjoyment of art and empower children to create meaningful, thoughtful and imaginative work of their own.

Knowledge Organisers

Here are examples of our Knowledge Organisers, which are used in every lesson to support children’s understanding. Pupils refer to them regularly to build subject‑specific vocabulary, make connections between units of learning and identify links across different curriculum areas. These examples show the format and structure our children use to strengthen their knowledge and deepen their learning.
