PSHE and RSE

At Nancledra School, our PSHE and RSE curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. Our scheme of work:

  • Meets all statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education as set out by the Department for Education.
  • Fulfils the National Curriculum expectation that all schools provide PSHE education.
  • Goes beyond statutory requirements by aligning with the PSHE Association Programme of Study, recommended by the DfE for high‑quality PSHE provision.

Curriculum Structure

Our curriculum is organised into five key areas, which are revisited in every year group to ensure a clear, progressive learning journey. In Year 6, pupils also explore an additional area: Identity.

  • Family & Relationships
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Safety and the Changing Body
  • Citizenship
  • Economic Wellbeing
  • Identity (Year 6 only)

This spiral structure ensures that children build on prior knowledge, deepen their understanding, and develop age‑appropriate skills as they move through the school.

How Our Curriculum Supports High‑Quality PSHE and RSE

Our scheme of work:

  • Provides a clear, structured, and comprehensive sequence of lessons from EYFS to Year 6.
  • Ensures that PSHE and RSE are taught weekly, with opportunities for discussion, reflection, and real‑life application.
  • Includes a wide range of activities recorded in a digital floorbook, through photographs, or through verbal work.
  • Shows clear progression in knowledge, vocabulary, and skills across the key stages.
  • Incorporates Pupil Voice to monitor engagement, understanding, and attitudes towards PSHE and RSE.

Online Safety

Online Safety is a core priority at Nancledra and is taught through both PSHE and Computing. Each academic year begins with a whole‑school Online Safety focus, followed by dedicated lessons every half term. Pupils learn how to:

  • stay safe online
  • manage online relationships
  • protect personal information
  • recognise risks and make responsible choices
  • understand their digital footprint
  • seek help if something online causes worry or concern

This ensures that children develop the knowledge and confidence to navigate the digital world safely and respectfully.

Impact

By the end of KS2, pupils at Nancledra:

  • are well prepared for the transition to PSHE and RSE learning in KS3
  • demonstrate positive attitudes towards PSHE and RSE lessons
  • have developed the emotional literacy, resilience, and social skills needed to thrive in school and beyond
