Mousehole Class

Mousehole Class is where our youngest pupils begin their learning journey in a nurturing, joyful and carefully structured environment. Reception and Year 1 learn together and separately, depending on the activity. Core subjects are taught mainly in small groups, with Miss Broomfield teaching Reception and Mrs Friggens teaching Year 1, ensuring each age group receives focused teaching that matches their developmental stage.

We believe strongly in providing continuous provision for Year 1 as they transition into Key Stage 1. Our hybrid structure offers the best of both worlds:

Small, focused teaching groups that develop core skills

Time for structured play and exploration, which supports emotional development and creativity

Opportunities for leadership, as Year 1 pupils act as role models for their younger classmates

In a playful nod to the famous Cornish tale of The Mousehole Cat, our children proudly take on their class identities as Mousehole Mice (Reception) and Mousehole Cats (Year 1). These names help build a sense of belonging, community and fun—reflecting the warmth and storytelling heritage of the village itself.

Mousehole Class is named after Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s most picturesque and historic fishing villages, known for its narrow streets, granite cottages and beautiful harbour.
Often described as one of Cornwall’s prettiest places, Mousehole is full of charm and coastal character, making it a fitting inspiration for the place where children begin their educational adventure.
