At Nancledra School, Physical Education plays a vital role in supporting children’s physical health, emotional wellbeing, and personal development. Our PE curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
We believe that high‑quality PE helps children build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong enjoyment of movement and sport.
Our Approach: real PE
To support our vision for inclusive, high‑quality physical education, Nancledra School follows the real PE approach. real PE is a whole‑school programme that places the development of the whole child at its core. It focuses not only on physical skills, but also on the personal, social, cognitive, and creative abilities that help children flourish both in and beyond PE lessons.
Through real PE, children:
- develop fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, and coordination
- build confidence and self‑belief through achievable challenges
- learn to work collaboratively, show empathy, and support others
- develop resilience by practising, refining, and improving their performance
- experience success at their own level, ensuring PE is accessible and enjoyable for all
real PE provides a structured progression of skills from Early Years to Year 6, ensuring that every child develops the physical literacy they need to participate fully in sport and physical activity.
A Broad and Balanced PE Offer
Alongside real PE, pupils take part in a wide range of sports and physical activities, including team games, athletics, dance, gymnastics, outdoor and adventurous activities, and competitive events within our local sports network. We encourage all children to challenge themselves, celebrate effort, and take pride in their achievements.
Our aim is for every child to leave Nancledra with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead a healthy, active lifestyle—now and in the future.
