At Nancledra School, our Behaviour Curriculum is designed to create a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Rooted in our relational approach and guided by principles of trauma-informed practice, we recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and an essential part of learning. Our aim is to teach positive behaviours explicitly, just as we teach reading or maths, ensuring that pupils develop the skills needed for self-regulation, resilience, and empathy.
Through structured lessons and everyday interactions, children learn to:
· Understand and manage their feelings.
· Build healthy relationships based on respect and kindness.
· Develop strategies for resolving conflict and repairing relationships.
· Take responsibility for their actions and choices.
Our approach is underpinned by The Nancledra Way, which promotes consistency, calmness, and positivity in every interaction. We set clear expectations through our three core rules: Be Ready – Take Responsibility – Be Safe.
We teach these expectations explicitly and model them daily, using PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and VRFs (Attune, Validate, Contain, Regulate, Relate, Reason) to support emotional regulation. Restorative conversations are central to our practice, helping pupils reflect, repair, and learn from mistakes without shame.
By embedding these principles into our Behaviour Curriculum, we ensure that pupils not only understand what good behaviour looks like but also why it matters—for themselves, for others, and for the wider community. Our ultimate goal is to prepare children for life beyond school, equipping them with the social and emotional skills to flourish in an ever-changing world.
