Newlyn Class is home to our Year 1 pupils, who continue to build on the strong foundations laid in Mousehole (Reception class) as they take their next steps into more structured learning. In this class, children develop their confidence, independence and curiosity through a broad and engaging curriculum, with plenty of opportunities to explore, create and discover. We encourage our pupils to develop a love of learning, ask questions and challenge themselves as they grow both academically and personally.

We name this class after Newlyn, one of Cornwall's most famous fishing towns. Nestled on the shores of Mount's Bay, Newlyn is known for its bustling harbour, rich maritime heritage and strong sense of community. As one of the largest fishing ports in England, it has a long history of hard work, resilience and connection to the sea. The town is also renowned for its artistic heritage, inspiring generations of painters with its beautiful coastline and vibrant character.

Just as Newlyn has long been a place of industry, creativity and community spirit, our Newlyn Class encourages children to work together, explore new ideas and develop the confidence to navigate new challenges. Through exciting learning experiences and a nurturing environment, pupils are supported to flourish and make the most of every opportunity.
